Advancing Thermal Energy Storage Innovation: INTERSTORES at BauSIM 2024

The INTERSTORES project proudly showcased its innovative advancements in seasonal thermal energy storage (sTES) during the prestigious BauSIM 2024 conference in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Abdulrahman Dahash, representing the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, presented groundbreaking research titled “Enhancing Efficiency and Feasibility of Large-Scale Thermal Energy Storage in District Heating Systems.”

This research emphasized the critical role of optimized insulation configurations in sTES, presenting a techno-economic analysis that highlights cost-efficient, high-performance solutions for district heating. The presentation underscored the INTERSTORES project’s commitment to developing sustainable and efficient energy storage technologies as part of the global energy transition.

With over 80 participants attending the session, the presentation sparked engaging discussions on the project’s innovative methodologies, including numerical modelling and insulation distribution optimization. The INTERSTORES initiative continues to align with the EU’s energy goals, fostering decarbonization and resilience in district heating systems.
