Deliverable 3.4 explores innovative concepts for enhancing seasonal thermal energy storage (sTES) aligned with the EU's renewable energy integration efforts:

  1. Storage Media: Discusses innovative materials like sand and gravel, and introduces phase change materials (PCMs) for increased capacity, emphasizing sustainability and circularity in material use.

  2. Charging and Discharging Devices: Reviews essential devices for sTES performance, highlighting advanced designs and the integration of thermochemical materials (TCMs) and PCMs to boost efficiency.

  3. Envelope Design: Examines the use of various insulation materials, focusing on optimizing insulation distribution to support circular economy practices.

  4. Optimal Operation: Introduces the "Charging Manager" developed to optimize the operation of sTES systems, detailing its tasks and performance indicators.

Overall, the deliverable offers comprehensive insights into sTES technologies, promoting efficient and sustainable solutions for energy storage.
