On September 24, 2024, the INTERSTORES project was presented at the CINEA-organized clustering event in Brussels, Belgium, focusing on advancements in Thermal Energy Storage (TES) technologies.
The event brought together EU-funded projects to discuss the current challenges and frontiers in expanding TES technologies across Europe.
During the event, Dr. Abdulrahman Dahash from the Austrian Institute of Technology introduced the INTERSTORES project through insightful presentation about project innovations, with the focus on large-scale Cavern Thermal Energy Storage (Giga-CTES) solutions and renovated and repurposed industrial sites to into seasonal Thermal Energy Storage (Reno-sTES), as key demo sites in and Vantaa (Finland) and Ingolstadt (Germany), respectively.
The presentation also tackled the critical challenges the project faces, including high investment costs, cost-effectiveness, market acceptance, regulatory barriers, and the integration of TES into existing energy systems.
The event fostered collaboration among leading European research institutes, sharing best practices and discussing future CINEA investments in TES.
