New Research Publication in Advancing Geothermal Energy Solutions

A new paper titled Analytical Solution for the Simulation of Ground Thermal Conditions Around Planar Trench Collectors” has been published in Geothermics. The lead author of the paper is Adinda Van de Ven, a doctoral student at Hochschule Biberach (HBC), Institute for Building and Energy Systems (IGE). She is joined by co-authors Prof. Roland Koenigsdorff and Prof. Peter Bayer, the coordinator of the INTERSTORES project.

The study introduces a novel three-dimensional analytical model that simulates the performance of plate-shaped geothermal heat exchangers installed in trenches. This model provides a fast and accurate method to predict the thermal behaviour of such systems, offering a more efficient approach to the design and operation of geothermal collectors. The findings from the study not only advance the field of geothermal energy but also highlight the real-world applications being explored at experimental sites in Germany.

Adinda Van de Ven, who is pursuing her doctoral research under the supervision of Prof. Bayer and Prof. Koenigsdorff, is focusing on the development of innovative geothermal technologies as part of her thesis. The INTERSTORES project has played a key role in supporting this research, providing both a framework and the resources to explore new methodologies for energy storage and heat exchange.
